Normally on Sundays, we'd have the text of that morning's sermon up for you by now. Today's Father's Day, though, and Deacon Kevin's taking some time with his family. We'll have his sermon up for you in the next day or two. In the meantime, spend a couple of minutes with Bishop Deon's thoughts and prayers for the day:

If you weren't able to make yesterday's live stream of Bishop Deon Johnson's ordination as the 11th Bishop of Missouri, or you'd like to experience it again, we've got you covered. Here's the video of the service (complete with our passing of the peace, Brady-bunch style!). Many thank to our own Janis Greenbaum (who serves as Director of Communications for the Diocese) for creating a memorable online experience of the service!
UPDATE: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch also has a photo collection from our event: take a look! Earlier this afternoon, members of the St. John's congregation and clergy gathered with neighbors, other priests and deacons, and Bishop-elect Deon Johnson, to pray and reflect together about the use of St. John's - Lafayette Square (Washington, DC), as a political backdrop earlier in the week. Both Bishop-elect Johnson, and the Revered Mike Angell of the Church of the Holy Communion (University City) spoke passionately about not only the events of the week, but also the larger cultural context framing the current unrest. Thank you to all who attended. We hope this is the beginning of a long, hard, productive discussion. |
