The St. John’s Altar Guild serves God by preparing the chancel and sanctuary for all Sunday services, as well as for special occasions like baptisms, weddings, and funerals. It is responsible for the care and preparation of the altar, credence table, tabernacle, brass, silver, and candles.
Parishioners of the altar guild spend most of their time working in the sacristy, which is a room where the vessels, linens, and candles are stored. There is also a sink in the sacristy used for washing all the vessels after every service. Those serving on the Guild work closely with the Rector, and serve with reverence and attention to detail. Training is provided for this ministry.
