Acolytes serve as an assistant to the priest during the Holy Eucharist, and are an integral part of the worship experience. They are not only servers, but also light candles, and carry torches, banners and processional crosses. They include faithful boys, girls, men, and women. Acolytes are part of the worship team along with clergy, lay readers, chalice bearers, choir, and musicians. They are a reminder to us all that through our Baptism we are called to live a life of service.
Chalice Bearers assist the priest in serving the wine and grape juice during Communion. They stand next to the priest and offer the cup to all who wish to receive it.
Lectors are a dedicated group of youth and adults who volunteer to assist in the worship service. They are parishioners of the congregation who assist at almost all services by reading selections from the Bible and leading the Prayers of the People.
Training is provided for anyone who wishes to become an Acolyte, Chalice Bearer or Lector. Serving in these ministries is a great way to get involved and to learn more about Episcopal Church worship. If you're interested in serving in one of these roles, contact Worship committee chair Ann Quay Rushing at [email protected].
