St. John's Soups

One of our parishioners, Jeffrey Deutsch, makes soups throughout the winter to benefit our Peace Meal Project (feeding ministry). He calls the soups "St. John's Soups." St. John's Soups are for sale at the St. Louis Community Farmers' Market in the St. John's Parish Hall on the second Saturdays of November, December, January, February, March, and April from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., as well as on Sunday mornings in the Parish Hall. You may contact Jeffrey Deutsch at (314) 865-4695 or jeffreydeutsch@charter.net for more information.

To date, Jeffrey's soups include:

Mary's Incredible Home-made Vegetable Soup with/ Ham My mother could not cook, except this wonderful soup that she made after we finished the Sunday ham. Then the bone made this soup's broth with tomato. Filled to the top with every vegetable you can imagine, this soup satisfies.

Red Velvet Soup A vegan broth tomato soup, highly flavored with red bell pepper and roasted garlic.

Curried Carrot and Pea SoupPureed carrot blends with the crisp green taste of the pea. A vegan version is available for you, as well.

Vegan Black Bean Soup The Caribbean is evoked with the taste of this hearty soup, enhance with Jamaican Jerk Seasoning and hint of smoke with the chipotle pepper.

Vegan White Bean Soup The depth of taste in this total vegan recipe, is enhanced with fennel. Two white beans are used, the Spanish small bean and the Italian canellini.

Golden Onion Soup This is the true French onion soup with a chicken broth base and gently flavored with mustard. It would be a sin to cover the top with Swiss cheese, mangling the delicate and rich tastes of this beloved soup. Your eyes will roll to the back of your head.

Vegan Spiced Pumpkin Soup Start your holiday meal with the pumpkin on first course for a change. Sassy with ginger, the soup sets the palate up for the rest of the meal.

Chili Verde You won’t find a bean in this chili but what you will find is flavor. Generous with the tomatillo and pork, the chili uses a variety of peppers and cilantro to make this a distinctively tasting chili.

Lentil Soup Using a lamb broth this soup is seasoned with the Andouille sausage.

Beef and Barley Soup Starting with sirloin angus steak this is a stick to your ribs soup that warms the belly on these wet, cold winter days.
