St. John's is located at the heart of Tower Grove Heights - a revitalized, resurgent area along South Grand and Arsenal, just across the street from beautiful Tower Grove Park. St. John's has been in Tower Grove since 1907, through thick and thin. We are thrilled that we are now just around the corner from the Grand South Grand - one of the most interesting, diverse business districts in the City of St. Louis. Inside St. John's, you will encounter a welcoming community of folks from a variety of backgrounds - including young and old, dressed up and dressed down, black and white, partnered and single. There is a place for everyone at St. John's. It is God's house and God welcomes everyone. The center of our life together is worship - worship with Holy Eucharist, or communion. At the largest service - the 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday morning - the worship service includes singing together, listening to readings from the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, a sermon, prayers, and communion. Childcare is available the service. Children are always welcome to participate in the entire service. For more on worship, please go to "Worshiping". After the 10:00 a.m. service, we share refreshments and fellowship. From September through May, there is Christian Education is offered throughout the week for children, youth, and adults. For more on teaching and fellowship, please go to Nurturing. St. John's is more than a church - it is a community center, a safe place for all people to gather, and an architectural jewel of Tower Grove South. Sound interesting? GovernanceSt. John's is governed by the Rector, Wardens, and Vestry. The "Rector," the Rev. Teresa Mithen, is an ordained priest, the hired "senior pastor," and the bishop's representative at St. John's. The "Vestry" is the board of nine lay leaders elected by the wider congregation that make policy decisions and other major decisions for the congregation. Scheduled Vestry Meetings The "Wardens" are vestry members who are nominated by the rector and elected by the vestry for special leadership roles. The Senior Warden, Julian Long, is the executive of the vestry and works most closely with the rector. The Junior Warden, G.W. Kelly, is the facilities manager and the convener of the Buildings and Grounds working group.
